Frequently Asked Questions

Although you and I will initially establish a clear direction and focus for our work, in individual sessions, you are free to bring up and talk about whatever issues are top of mind for you. I remain focused on your goals and use what you bring up organically to help you continue to work towards them. I respect your time and money and am committed to working as effectively and efficiently as possible.

As you may have discovered yourself, the power of alcohol is strong. I believe that to change your relationship with it, you have to match the power of alcohol with the power of your efforts against it. In other words, you have to fight fire with fire. That’s why I find that men who do best in achieving abstinence or moderation commit to participating in counselling at least once a week for several months. However, the choice is entirely up to you.

Absolutely. Think about it: there are 168 hours in a week. If the only time you spend working on changing your relationship with alcohol is the one hour per week you spend with me, it’s going to take you a while to make progress. But if you supplement that hour with work on yourself between sessions – which I will give you detailed written recommendations on after every session – then you can really get some traction.

In addition, with online counselling, you can participate in sessions from the comfort of your home or office, at a time that’s convenient for you, and without the hassle of commuting to sessions or sitting in awkward waiting rooms.
